Session highlight- Local Funding, Big Impact: Winning at the Ballot Box

Local initiatives can play a critical role in advancing transportation investment in communities across America. Hear directly from leaders behind two successful ballot measures as they share proven strategies for building coalitions, crafting persuasive messages, and navigating the path to voter approval.

Speakers include:

  • Matthew Panik, chief advocacy officer at the Charlotte Regional Business Alliance, will break down the successful November ballot measure approving a 1% local sales tax—projected to generate $19.4 billion over 30 years to support road and pedestrian improvements, expand bus service, and advance rail projects.
  • Lisa Hagins, CEO of the Arizona Transportation Builders Association, will highlight the winning strategy behind Pima County’s renewal of a half-cent sales tax—securing a 20-year, $2.67 billion investment in the region’s transportation plan, approved by voters with a decisive 60% majority.
