What happened: The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) Aug. 30 authorized a 10-year plan to fund and complete $85 billion worth of transportation projects.

Why it matters: Much of the plan focuses on funding improvements to Texas’ most traveled highways, including Austin’s I-35 corridor, I-45 in Houston, and I-30 in Dallas. Projects will be funded through existing sources such as oil and gas severance taxes, sales taxes, and additional money dedicated to the state highway fund. Gov. Greg Abbott lauded the plan as a “huge boon to our state’s infrastructure and booming economy.”
