Securing a transportation revenue increase is a major milestone—but the work doesn’t end there. At the 12th Annual National Workshop for State & Local Transportation Advocates (July 14-15 in Washington, D.C.) advocates will share their experiences facing challenges to revenue measures even after winning approval from voters and state lawmakers. Hear lessons learned from these efforts; how such challenges can impact state transportation planning; the importance of strong coalition-building; and practical advice for others advancing transportation investments.

Session speakers include:

  • Lisa Daglian, executive director, Permanent Citizens Advisory Committee to New York’s Metropolitan Transit Authority
  • Sandra Hagen Solin, founder and president of Colorado-based government affairs and lobbying firm Capitol Solutions
  • Tennessee State Sen. Jeff Yarbro (D- District 21)

The workshop addresses the real-life challenges and success stories of state transportation funding campaigns. Attendees learn what states have raised or are trying to raise new transportation revenue, why they are doing so, what revenue streams they are exploring, who the major players are, and campaign tactics and strategies.

Members of the Transportation Investment Advocates Council receive a discounted rate and public officials attend for free. Contact Carolyn Kramer Simons for the discount code.

The Workshop is held in conjunction with ARTBA’s 37th Annual Public-Private Partnerships in Transportation Conference.
