What happened: Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers (D) May 30 aided pothole patching crews as a part of his administration’s statewide campaign to repair local infrastructure. His current 2023-2025 budget proposition allocates $100 million for local infrastructure improvement projects.

Why it matters: Evers is one of several governors who recently announced plans to increase infrastructure investment in the coming fiscal year. Evers’ Feb. 15 proposal provides an additional $50 million annually for the Local Road Improvement Program (LRIP) on top of a four percent funding increase annually.

What’s next: This Wisconsin legislature is reviewing the bill. If the proposal is rejected by the legislature, the state will operate under its previous year budget appropriations.
