Maine needs an extra $232 million annually to meet its road and bridge repair needs as construction costs continue to rise, according the Maine Department of Transportation.  A committee of lawmakers, state officials, and business leaders are debating raising the state gas tax or tapping general fund revenue to bolster maintenance funding. In Kentucky,  state Rep. Sal Santoro (R – 60) and the Kentucky Chamber of Commerce are supporting a gas tax increase to fund infrastructure repair. Santoro hopes to find common ground with Governor-elect Andy Beshear (D), who intends to prioritize infrastructure. Read more>>

 

The Washington state Supreme Court upheld an injunction on Initiative-976, a bill that would cap car tab fees on vehicles at $30. Several government agencies have sued over the initiative, arguing that I-976 is unconstitutional. Washington voters approved I-976 in November with 53 percent of the vote. Read more>>
