A spokesman for the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) said that federal funding uncertainty is adding to the difficulties of planning long-term transportation construction projects. MDOT Director Kirk Steudle also said the state’s 2015 transportation funding bill (approved revenue increases don’t fully phase in until 2021) is only slowing the rate of deterioration.
