The Arizona Transportation Board has approved a $306 million “2015-2019 Five Year Transportation Facilities Construction Program”. The proposal places particular emphasis on maintaining and modernizing the state’s highway system, and includes several major projects to improve the roads and bridges.

A public comment period on the draft plan was held March 7 to May 20, during which hearings took place in Phoenix, Marana, and Flagstaff.  Additional comments were also submitted online. Three projects were added to the final program in response to the feedback provided.

In a June 13 news release, the Arizona Department of Transportation noted that it was necessary to prioritize projects due to stagnant revenue from state gas and vehicle license taxes, as well as decreased federal funding.
