In a radio interview Nov. 2, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) addressed the possibility of a state gas tax increase: “Everything is on the table for discussion, but it must be done within the context of overall tax fairness to the people of New Jersey,” Christie said, adding, “I’d consider any suggestions that they want to make regarding the Transportation Trust Fund.”
Wisconsin’s budget committee on Nov. 4 voted 10-6 to approve borrowing $350 million in order to fund state transportation projects, putting several delayed projects back on schedule. The bipartisan plan will allocate $200 million in 2015, with the remaining $150 million to be distributed in 2016.
An annual report released Nov. 2 said Tennessee’s infrastructure needs an additional $4.1 billion over the next five years, with a large amount of that sum due to the state’s dire transportation funding shortfall. A January 2015 report by the state Comptroller’s identified an $8.5 billion state transportation funding backlog.
