Thirty states and DC have increased the state gas tax since 2013. Oftentimes the increased revenue is marketed to the public as a way to improve their local transportation infrastructure; however, the actual impact on the local level varies by state and locality. Three experts will share their experiences on state legislation that dedicated— or failed to dedicate— increased revenue to localities, the impact that had on the public’s perception of the legislation, and the future of the state’s overall transportation infrastructure. Once legislation becomes law, the most successful advocates quickly reassess how to keep growing their state’s investment for maintenance and construction. In a free hour-long webinar from ARTBA’s “Transportation Investment Advocacy Center™”, three advocates will share their experience managing multi-year campaigns, harnessing public and legislative will to revisit the issue, and passing multiple bills to address their states’ shortfalls. Speakers provided a deep dive into the Nov. 6 election outcomes, including insight into congressional races and federal transportation funding, as well as state and local ballot measure results. Additionally, a state advocate will provide a deep dive into California’s Proposition 6, a measure to repeal the 2017 state gas tax increase, including the campaign and its results.
